Character Breakdowns

Alison

Alison begins as a late teen with a fragile emotional state due to her negative upbringing and toxic home environment. Alison’s best friend is Christina, and they have been friends since Kindergarten. As teens they love doing everything together and are inseparable. Alison has a great deal of anger towards her parents, Thomas and Valerie, especially her father. She blames them for a lot of negative things that happen in her life. Alison is a wallflower in social situations. Through her upbringing, she has obtained the idea that money solves all issues and that is what she must seek throughout her life. She fears disappointing others and desires romantic true love.

Christina

Christina is Alison’s closest friend and biggest supporter—a confident, outgoing presence who naturally thrives in social situations. She and Alison have been inseparable since Kindergarten, with Christina often acting as Alison’s anchor through life’s hardships. Loyal to her core, Christina always assumed their bond would withstand anything. However, when Alison begins drifting away in pursuit of a new life, Christina is left hurt and unsure of how to reach the friend she thought she’d never lose.

Thomas

Thomas is Alison’s father. Thomas is a deeply flawed patriarch driven by an obsession with financial success and legacy. He believes that building wealth is the greatest expression of love and duty, convincing himself that his relentless pursuit of money is all for the good of his family. Beneath this self-justification lies a man who craves recognition, yet never feels truly seen or appreciated. He is a heavy drinker in denial, unwilling to acknowledge his destructive behavior or take responsibility for the harm he causes. Thomas often hides behind the idea of being a “provider” as a way to excuse his anger, coldness, and lack of emotional accountability—failing to realize that his family needs more than just a roof over their heads.

Valerie

Valerie is Alison’s mother, a kind and empathetic woman who quietly keeps the family running. A dedicated stay-at-home mom, she takes pride in fulfilling her role as a wife and mother, often at the expense of her own needs and identity. She’s the quiet peacekeeper in the household, smoothing over conflict when Thomas lashes out and avoiding confrontation whenever possible. Valerie longs for harmony and idealized relationships, but when things fall apart, she struggles to face the discomfort of reality. Though her love runs deep, she often infantilizes Alison and fails to recognize her daughter’s growth. Soft-spoken and conflict-averse, Valerie allows herself to be diminished in her marriage, never quite finding the strength to stand up to her husband - even when she knows she should.

Calvin

Calvin is the charming, confident son of a wealthy businessman who has grown up surrounded by privilege. Although he's never known real struggle, he prides himself on the illusion that he’s built his life on his own merit. Calvin is magnetic and thrives on attention, often hosting lavish parties that show off his wealth and status. When he meets Alison, he sweeps her into his glittering world of luxury and excess, offering her a taste of the life she’s always dreamed of. Beneath his polished exterior, however, Calvin lacks the emotional depth and accountability that true love and partnership require. He also hides a secret gambling problem, which ultimately leads to the collapse of everything he and Alison have built together.

Joe Miller

Joe is a charismatic party guy, always the life of the room with his easy charm, quick wit, and flirtatious grin. He thrives in social scenes, rarely thinking beyond the next party or hookup, and keeps things light and fun without getting too deep. At first glance, Joe seems shallow and emotionally distant—but when he meets Christina, everything changes. Her presence brings out his more thoughtful, grounded side, and over time, he becomes a loyal and supportive partner, even if he never fully loses his love for the spotlight.

RICH FRIEND #1

Rich Friend #1 is status-obsessed and image-conscious, curating their social circle around wealth and influence. Glamorous and sharp-tongued, they meet Alison after she starts presenting a more polished version of herself and, impressed, invite her to one of Calvin’s exclusive parties—unknowingly setting the stage for Alison’s whirlwind romance. Though not deeply close to Calvin, they've shared the same party scene since university. Beneath their polished exterior lies a deep fear of being irrelevant without money or status, which fuels their constant climb for approval and belonging.

Bookie

Bookie is Calvin’s smooth-talking bookie, always lurking beneath the surface of his glamorous world. They present themselves as a helpful confidant when luck runs dry, but behind the charm lies a cold opportunist. Secretly working for Casino Lord, Bookie manipulates Calvin into making riskier bets, knowing it will lead to his ruin. They’re dangerous in a velvet-gloved way, smiling while Calvin loses everything, unaware of the puppet master pulling the strings.

Casino Lord

Casino Lord is the most menacing figure in the gambling world, a ruthless powerhouse who controls everything from the shadows. They thrive on keeping others in debt, and Calvin, manipulated by Bookie, becomes their next victim. In the end, Casino Lord takes everything from Calvin—his money, his house, and his future. Their empire grows on broken lives, with Calvin's downfall just another pawn in their game.
